John and Mavis Harmer Trophy Races - Sunday 15 June

Published 08:00 on 1 Jun 2025

From 2016 until the pandemic began in 2020, the annual Club programme included a race that was open to all members on the final Saturday of Training Week. If the weather conditions were suitable, there was also a race for the trainees. These races, the John and Mavis Harmer Trophy Races, were followed by the end of training barbecue.

This year the training course ended on Sunday 8 June with the barbecue on the 14 June. The John and Mavis Cup Races are scheduled to take place on Sunday 15 June at 11:00, weather permitting.

The trainees' race will be open to novices and cadets. Novices and Cadets boats should display the striped tape (SI 2024 Addendum B). Boats so marked are to be given a wide berth by Member's boats; failure to keep clear will be penalised.

The format will be a Pursuit Race with both fleets starting in a single cycle ie each dinghy class being started at the same time regardless of which fleet, N&C or Member, it is racing in. The start times will be taken from the 2025 Pursuit Times table with 11:00 nominal start and, conditions permitting, a 90 minute race.

Should conditions make a Pursuit Race challenging, the Race Officer may decide to run an Average Lap Time race instead.

High water is at 15:02

The bar will open after racing

The John Harmer Trophy will be awarded to the winner of the Members' fleet. The winner of the Trainees' fleet will be awarded the Mavis Harmer Trophy. The trophies were named in honour of John and Mavis Harmer (see here).
