New Year's Day Race - 1 January 2022

Published 00:00 on 10 Nov 2021

Three boats took to the water for the traditional Seafarers New Year's Day race in challenging conditions (Wind strength according to the Met Office was F5 gusting F7). The intrepid Seafarers who braved the conditions were Nathan and Mary in the RS400 and Chad and Trev Kelly in their Blazes. All three boats struggled to get off the beach and it was not long before Chad broke his rudder. Shortly afterwards, a strong gust caught Trev out leaving Nathan and Mary the only ones to stay upright and finish the race.

Thanks to Mike Evans and Trevor Ventham for running the race, Justin Churcher and Simon Smith for manning the Patrol Boat and Mike Burlingham for driving the tractor .
