Open Day - 26 April 2025

Published 12:05 on 1 Apr 2025

On Saturday 26 April from 11:00, the Club will be running an Open Day in parallel with Practice Sailing. This will be an opportunity to open our gates and show the public and potential new members what a family friendly club we are and what fun and fulfilling activities we provide. Subject to suitable weather and sea conditions, we will be offering an opportunity for our visitors to try sailing and rowing. By providing two Practice Sailing sessions on the same day, members rigging, launching, and sailing their dinghies will demonstrate the club's raison d'ĂȘtre. The day will also enable club members, especially the newer ones, to meet the Committee and other helpers.

Buoyancy aids will be provided. Those going on the water would be wise to bring suitable beach shoes, a waterproof top, and perhaps jeans or trousers that can roll up. We will provide two large club dinghies, each helmed by an experienced dinghy helm. We will also have the club Gig operating under the supervision of our Gig Monitors. Sailing and rowing trips will run on an ad hoc basis to meet the demand. Each on-water sailing session is expected to last no more than 20 minutes. Rowing sessions might be slightly longer.

Practice Sailing will run from 11:00 to 12:30 and from 14:00 to 15:30.

Tea and coffee will be available throughout the day. From 12:00 until 14:00, Stubbington Fish & Chips Vintage Trailer will be parked nearby with a selection of drinks and snacks. Check out the menu, here.

The help of members will be key to making a success of the day. In addition to welcoming and guiding our guests, members will be required to act as coordinator, Gig mentor, shore crew, beach crew, patrol boat helm and crew, and tractor driver. We also need some experienced helms for the dinghies. You may volunteer to cover the morning (10:30-13:30) or afternoon (13:30-16:30) session, or both. If you would like to help and you are already Logged in, you will see the list below. Simply click on the appropriate Volunteer button. If you consider yourself to be an "experienced helm" but can see no Volunteer button for this role, contact Terence, our Vice Commodore.

If you have an hour or two to spare on Saturday 26 April, even if you have not volunteered to help and do not intend to sail, why not just turn up on the day and help spread cheer?

Members of the public and members of the Club who have any questions should contact Tim Mason, our Membership Secretary. Members of the public who would like to take advantage of the trial sail are encouraged to email Tim to book a slot.

At the end of the day, members can unwind with another of Tony and Mandy Nicholls' popular Bingo and Quiz nights with an accompanying fish and chip supper.
