RYA OnBoard

During the 2019 season, Seafarers ran a course for younger cadets alongside its YSS level 1 & 2 course. This proved successful in encouraging local youngsters to become involved in sailing. As a consequence, the Club decided to enrol onto the RYA OnBoard Scheme.

Run by sailing's National Governing Body, the RYA, OnBoard is a hugely successful grass roots programme which seeks to make sailing and windsurfing easier to access for 8 to 18 year olds. Launched in 2005 the programme has helped introduce over 900,000 young people across the country to sailing and windsurfing.

As well as the obvious physical benefits provided by sailing and windsurfing, the OnBoard programme is carefully designed to further develop life skills and has learning development at its core. The broader learning benefits can teach young people about teamwork, independence, communication and creativity as well as giving them confidence and determination which they can take with them off the water into many other aspects of their lives.

This scheme supports the Club's existing Youth courses and the Saturday morning Cadet sessions. It does not affect the sailing, racing and cruising enjoyed by Club members throughout the year.
