Tuesday Talk - Container Ships in The Solent

23rd January, 20:00 - 22:00

David Fortey will talk about 'Container Ships in The Solent, and their interaction with leisure craft'. It should be an interesting presentation covering a wide field starting with container/large ship operations within the Solent and general South and South West shipping areas, with particular emphasis on safety and interaction with leisure craft. David will go on to talk about maritime slavery (yes, it does happen in the Solent area!), smuggling, drugs, weapons and general nefarious activity and national security.

David is currently a ship's Agent for the CMA CGM Container line. His background is varied, starting out in the Royal Navy, then in shipping intelligence with Special Branch followed by a spell in Border Force at Government level developing maritime modern slavery legislation and training enforcement agencies, all the time continuing as a maritime practitioner on board ships of all types.

Cruising members should find this particularly interesting, but really anyone using The Solent waters.

Bar open from 19.30 and the talk starts promptly at 20.00.

Please book via WebCollect just to give an indication of numbers attending. There is no charge and guests are welcome.

Please bring a little cash, there will be a collection during the evening which will go to our speaker's preferred charity - The Portsmouth Sail Training Trust.

If anyone requires any further information, please contact Viv, our Social Secretary
