Improving Skills Course - Day Sailing Top Tips

9th July 2021, 19:00 - 21:00

Pandemic precautions have decimated the Club's 2021 training schedule. The cadet sessions and the Bank Holiday extravaganza were hugely successful so the Training Team have arranged two new training opportunities that draw on this experience; Improving Skills and Junior Cadets courses. These take place over the weekend 9 to 11 July.

Improving Skills course is a special course that brings together particularly useful aspects of the RYA Day Sailing and Seamanship courses. The aim is to prepare members for dinghy cruising in the Solent. The course will explore preparation, passage planning, safety and, more practically, skills such as rudderless sailing, anchoring, reefing, coming to a buoy, coming alongside and managing a fully inverted capsize.

This course will run over the weekend 9-11 July as follows:

  • Friday 9 July 1900-2100 - Day sailing top tips an informal session including discussion, advice and sharing of ideas.
  • Saturday 10 July 1000-1600- Practical on the water sessions.
  • Sunday 11 July - An opportunity to join the programmed cruise. This could be with instructors (unfortunately not in your boat due to Covid restrictions) mentoring and the potential of the RIB / Patrol Boat to support.

For details and to book, go to WebCollect.

After you have booked, the Training Secretary will contact you to ask if you wish to use your own or a Club boat and whether you intend to join the cruise on Sunday.

Maximum number of trainees - 12.

There will not be a formal RYA certificate for this course as it is bespoke to meet member's requirements.
