Big Spring Beach Clean

13th April 2019, 10:00 - 13:00

Big Spring Beach Clean

The Big Spring Beach Clean is the largest and most effective volunteer beach cleaning project in the UK. The event is co-ordinated by volunteers for Surfers Against Sewage (SAS).

During the 2018 Big Spring Beach Clean more than 35,500 volunteers removed over 63 tonnes of marine plastic pollution and litter from 575 beaches around the UK. Hill Head may look like a clean beach but last Spring, with help from volunteers from the Club, a total of 35kg of rubbish was collected of which approximately 15kg were plastics! There were also 3 syringes, a scaffold post and a car wheel!

Seafarers Sailing Club is keen to continue supporting this initiative. If you would like to take part in the 2019 Big Spring Beach Clean, meet outside the Club on Saturday 13th April. The event begins at 10am and ends at 1pm.

You can bring your family, your dog, your friend or just your enthusiasm and become part of the Big Spring Beach Clean family! All children under the age of 16 must be accompanied by a responsible adult. Please wear suitable clothing for the weather and ensure that protective gloves are worn during the beach clean.

On completion of the Hill Head Big Clean, free tea and coffee will be available at the clubhouse to all participants (not just Club members).

Any queries, contact Debbie Woolnough.
