The Club is running the two sail training courses described below in 2025. The first session on 1 May will be a welcome and introduction. There will then be three weekends of practice and theory on 10/11 May, 24/25 May, and 7/8 June. Precise times will be found in the RYA Training Programme (here).
RYA Level 1 & 2 (Start Sailing & Basic Skills) - This course is aimed at adults with little or no sailing experience. However, those with experience who have not sailed for many years or just want a refresher are also welcome to book.
RYA Youth Sailing Scheme Stage 1 & 2 - As indicated by "Youth", this course is aimed at a younger clientele. It is run separately from the adult course and tailored to suit age and ability. Stage 1 introduces cadets to sailing and the experience of being in a small dinghy. Stage 2 introduces the basic sailing skills, rope work and sailing safely.
Welcome and Introduction - Thursday 1 May
The first session on Thursday 1 May will be a welcome and introduction. This will give trainees a chance to understand a bit more about RYA training, what the courses offer, what to expect from the course they have signed up for, what kit they might need, what follows, and how to volunteer to help. Phil, our RYA Principal and Chief Instructor (Sailing), and Beverley, our RYA Training Administrator, will both be available. They will be delighted to answer questions and explain more about the exciting opportunities these courses offer. The bar will be open for the second half of this introductory event.
Volunteers
Whether or not you, or your family, are on a course, why not help with the training? It can be fun. There will be a need for patrol boat crew, tractor drivers, beach crew, and shore crew (to keep an eye on the clubhouse, etc). The beach crew should be prepared to get wet and engage with cadets (in Oppies). If you would like to help, go to the RYA Training Programme (here), make sure you are Logged in, scroll to one of the training days, and click on the appropriate Volunteer button.
If you have any queries, do not hesitate to contact Beverley Daniels, our RYA Training Administrator.
