RYA Training Inspection

To retain our status as a RYA Training Centre, each year the club is inspected by the RYA. Club equipment and facilities are checked, including club boats and the SOPs.

On Tuesday 15 July the Club's Training Team will run a training session alongside practice sailing; the RYA Inspector will probably get afloat. The Training Team will lead but would welcome a few extra volunteers to ensure all bases are covered and provide some 'trainees' in order to demonstrate what we do.

Members are encouraged to make our Inspecting Officer, Julian Pearson, welcome on the day.

Practice Sailing

Although aimed primarily at Cadets and Novices, Practice Sailing sessions provide an opportunity for anyone that fancies going for a gentle sail with patrol boat cover and tractor assistance. The sessions are available on Tuesday evenings from mid June to the end of the school summer holiday. Reservation is not mandatory but if you intend taking part you are encouraged to book via WebCollect (here).

A similar activity, Development Sailing, will take place on most Saturday mornings during the same period. Hopefully, an RYA Dinghy Instructor will be available for these sessions.

Those interested in Practice Sailing or Development Sailing might also find the Coaching sessions of value.

Practice Sailing is a "self-help" activity; those who make use of it will, naturally, want to help run it occasionally. Volunteers are required to act as coordinators, patrol boat drivers and crew, tractor drivers, and beach crew. If you are logged in, the Duty Roster for this event is visible at the foot of this page. To volunteer, simply scroll down and click on the appropriate Volunteer button. Each session will be subject to a minimum of three dinghies, a wind strength of F4 or below and sufficient volunteers to run it. For more detail read the Practice Sailing section of the SOP or go to the website Practice Sailing page.
