2025 One-off Rowing Events » 2025 Great River Race
The annual Great River Race is an international rowing race. Seafarers hope to take part in this premier event. The race involves rowing 21 miles along the Thames from Millwall to Richmond. The gig crew will comprise 4 rowers, 1 cox, and 1 passenger (interchangeable during the race).
The opportunity to take part is open to all members of Seafarers Sailing Club. It doesn't matter what level of rower you are or even if you have never rowed before; full training will be provided. Those intending to participate will be committing to:
- Being available on Saturday 20th September (all day) (and potentially the afternoon of Friday 19th September).
- A number of 2-3 hour training sessions throughout the summer. Timings will be tailored (as far as possible) around the crew's other commitments and by agreement.
- A 21 mile row on the River Thames in our own Bursledon Gig with around 270 other boats, passing under 21 bridges.
- A £75 registration fee payable per team member, plus shared charges for the boat (getting it to London etc). The total cost will be around £150 per person, plus your choice of overnight accommodation on the Friday/shared minibus costs on the Saturday.
If you would like to be a member of the training squad for this event, please contact Mark Ransome or Lesley Charlton by 14 March.
