2024 Practice Sailing and Rowing » Practice Sailing and Rowing

2nd July, 18:30 - 20:00

Select the link / 2024 Practice Sailing, Rowing, and Coaching / above to see a list of the remaining Sessions this season.

Practice Sailing

Although aimed primarily at Cadets and Novices, these sessions provide an opportunity for anyone that fancies going for a gentle sail with patrol boat cover and tractor assistance. The sessions are available most Tuesday evenings and Saturday mornings from June until the end of the school summer holiday. Those interested might also find the Coaching sessions of value.

Reservation is not mandatory but if you intend taking part you are encouraged to book via WebCollect (here).

Practice Sailing is a "self-help" activity; those who make use of it will, naturally, want to help run it occasionally. Volunteers are required to act as coordinators, patrol boat drivers and crew, tractor drivers, and beach crew. If you are logged in, the Duty Roster for this event is visible at the foot of this page. To volunteer, simply scroll down and click on the appropriate Volunteer button. Alternatively, go to the Duty Roster, scroll to the appropriate day and click on the appropriate Volunteer button.

Each session will be subject to a minimum of three dinghies, a wind strength of F4 or below and sufficient volunteers to run it. For more detail read the Practice Sailing section of the SOP or go to the website Practice Sailing page.

The Club Boats page may also be relevant. To book a Club Boat, go to WebCollect.

Precise dates and times will be published in the Practice Sailing Programme.

Rowing

During each Practice Sailing session, the Club's Bursledon Gig will be available for rowing practice. Rowing may start up to 30 minutes before the Practice Sailing session is scheduled to begin.

All rowing at Seafarers is carried out in accordance with the SSC Rowers Handbook (here). Thus, rowing will only take place during a Practice Sailing session if an appropriately authorised member has volunteered to act as Gig Monitor.

To volunteer to act as Gig Monitor for this session, click on the appropriate Volunteer button which, if you are logged in, will be visible at the bottom of this page.

If you are interested in rowing at a particular session, you are advised to make this known via WhatsApp.

For more details about rowing at the Club, including how to join the Rowing WhatsApp Group, read the Rowing section of the SOP or go to the website Rowing page.
