Format of Teams Race

Teams:

Each team must comprise at least three boats as follows:

  • At least one boat must be slow fleet (PY 1141 or more)
  • At least one boat must be fast fleet (PY 1140 or less)
  • At least one boat must be a single hander.
  • At least one boat must be multi-crew.

Multi-crew boats may carry more than one helm plus one crew and there is no restriction on changing the helm during the race.

The Race:

The race will be either a Pursuit or an Average Lap race. The format that most suits the conditions will be decided on the day.

Scoring and Awards:

The race will be scored as normal; each boat is given a score (1, 2, 3, 4, etc) which is based upon finishing position in a pursuit race or the order of corrected time in an average lap race.

Individual prizes will be awarded to:

  • The overall winning boat.
  • The overall runner up.
  • The lowest scoring boat helmed solely by a Cadet or a Novice.

The team that wins the Commodore's Challenge will be decided as follows:

  • Any boat that includes at least one Novice or Cadet in its crew will have its score reduced by 25% - thus such a boat finishing 10th will have its score adjusted to 7.5.
  • Any boat that is helmed throughout the race by a Novice or a Cadet will have its score reduced by 50% - thus such a boat finishing 10th will have its score adjusted to 5.0.
  • The score for each team will be the mean of the sum of the scores for its individual boats after the above adjustments have been applied.
  • The team with the lowest score thus calculated will win the Commodore's Challenge.
  • In the event of a tie, the team with more Cadets and Novices will win.
  • In the event that the tie persists, the team which has the best individual boat result will win.

(Novice is as defined in Addendum A3 to the Club's 2024 Sailing Instructions)
