2026 One-off Sailing Events » Family/Regatta Day

Sat 6th June, 10:30-17:00

A day of fun for the whole family with beach games, dinghy and gig races, an egg drop competition, and a prize-giving with free tea and cake.

Morning - from 10:30

  • Rounders on the beach
  • Preparation for Egg Drop competition

Lunch - approximately 12:00

Remember to bring your own lunch.

Afternoon - from 13:00

Dinghy Race: Each boat, a Hartley or a Stratos, will have a crew of two. One will be an experienced helm, the other will be a trainee, a cadet, or a novice. A short, simple, windward-leeward course will be set; the helm and crew will swap roles at the upwind mark.

Gig Race: Gigs "Rowsea" and "Oarsome" will race each other over a similar windward-leeward course.

The races will be run by our Vice Commodore, Terence O'Neill, from the patrol boat. Volunteers will be required to helm and crew the patrol boat, drive the tractor, and help on the beach. If you are logged in, the Duty Roster is visible at the foot of this page. To volunteer, simply scroll down and click on the appropriate Volunteer button. Alternatively, go to the Duty Roster, scroll to the appropriate day and click on the appropriate Volunteer button.

On completion of Racing - approx 15:30

There will be an Egg Drop competition from the Club house roof which is always popular with younger members.

Prize Giving and Tea - from 16:30

Tea and cake will be available. Although this will be free, it would be helpful for the caterers to have an idea of numbers attending. So please book via WebCollect (here).

The bar will be open.

Cadet members under the age of 11 must have a parent or responsible adult present.
