Rule of Six

A change to the English law that addresses the 'Covid Rule of 6' came into effect on Monday 14 September. The Committee's view on the impact at Seafarers SC was sent to all members by email on Wed 16 Sep. Significant points made were:

  • We must all follow the Hands, Face, Space policy.
  • We can still go sailing and enjoy racing, cruising, training and recreational sailing. The 'Rule of 6' does not apply whilst actually participating in our sport, but social distancing rules still apply. It is, however, difficult to see where we would need to be in groups of more than 6 other than perhaps during the launching and recovery process.
  • The 'Rule of 6' a maximum gathering with social distancing when ashore socialising. Please recognise the law requires clear separation between the groups and that particular care is needed to ensure that informal mingling does not result in a gathering of more than 6.
  • We will retain details of all members who attend the Club and hold these for 21 days.

The 'Rule of 6' is now law. The Club operates in the full view of the public. All members should recognise that when socialising, having a drink after sailing, catching up with friends, etc, that the 'Rule of 6' is legally enforceable. All are to respect this and work together to ensure all follow the law and can continue to enjoy our Club safely.
