Training

The Club is an RYA Training Centre. Each season we run a number of training courses for Club Members. The Start Sailing and Basic Skills course for beginners plus a more advanced course to enable our more experienced members to extend their skills and qualifications. The Club also trains its own rescue boat helms.

In the 2012 season we are planning to run two courses: RYA National Dinghy Certificate Scheme for Level 1 & 2 (Start Sailing and Basic Skills) and the RYA Level 3 course (Better Sailing).

The Start Sailing and Basic Skills course will take place in May starting on Tuesday evenings from 15 May followed by the major part of practical training which will be over the Spring Bank Holiday week (schools half term: Saturday 2 June – Sunday 10 June). Further information will be sent out in the New Year. This course has been very popular in the past; please complete the application form as soon as possible and return it to the Training Secretary to register your name.

NB: Trainees must be 11 years or over at time of training.

We are also offering the RYA Better Sailing course to everyone who has at least 1 season’s sailing experience. This improver course seeks to bridge the gap between the Level 1/2 courses and the more advanced courses. It is intended to make the transition easier for those sailors wishing to progress further through the RYA training scheme, allowing them opportunity to practice and consolidate their techniques and have a taster of what some of the advanced modules have to offer. The course will consist of theory and practical sessions and will take place on three Tuesday evenings and two Saturday mornings from 26 June to 10 July.

It is likely that applications for both courses will exceed available places. If this happens, places will be allocated on the basis of a draw.

Fees:

Level 1 / 2 course - £60 including RYA books and certificate

Better Sailing course - £25 including certificate
