Local Weather

SSC is located on the northern edge of the Solent (see the "How to find SSC" page for an exact location) and in years gone past the prevailing wind has been from the South West. Of course there is no hard and fast rule but hot summer days tend to lead to a robust sea breeze from this direction. The wind tends to blow straight down the channel between the western edge of the Isle Of Wight and the mainland from the direction of the Needles.

A weather station has recently been set up on a post on the Brambles Bank which is about 2 miles from SSC in the direction of the prevailing wind. This link will take you to Bramblemet which holds the weather information gathered from this weather station.

For a more general forecast try this link Solent Weather.

Hillhead Sailing Club is a mile or so to the West of SSC so the weather conditions are very similar and they have their own weather statoion. This live weather feed from HHSC be found here.

Warsash Sailing Club is some 7 miles to the West of SSC and in a more sheltered location further up the solent but they do provide a live weather information. This live weather feed can be found here.

This weather report is located at Lee-On-Solent. Its not clear exactly where its located but the information appears to be shore based and provides a contrast to BambleMet which is located in the wide open spaces (relatively) in the middle of the Solent.

This link is a gliding weather site but it does display a detailed wind map over the country. It seems to gather weather information from various airports and other sites around the country. One of the sites appears to be Mengeham Rye Sailing Club located to the east of Hayling Island.
